River Air was established principally due to a medical need identified in the Eastern Cape.
During major road renovations on the road between East London and Butterworth in 2002, a medical emergency arose where a young patient needed to be airlifted to hospital. At the time there was no service available with the result that a public plea was sent out over local radio stations.
Pastor André Roebert heard the call for help, and although unable to help at the time, founded River Air soon after with the aim of being able to provide a much needed medical emergency support.
River Air also operates as a commercial charter company. River Air works in close association with FaithCares, the humanitarian relief department of River Ministries.
